Funeral Memorial Service Program Provides Values

Most people view a memorial service as their last opportunity to bid farewell to a friend, associate or family member. There are a number of cultural, regional and personal influences that can affect these types of proceedings. Providing a funeral program is one way to let all in attendance understand the order of actions.

This printout can be a single sheet of paper or a pamphlet of multiple pages. It will contain the honoree's full name, the dates of their birth and passing, and the details of when and where the services will be held. The deceased's photograph is also something most families choose to include on the product's cover.

On the inside, the handout will have the order of service from opening to closing. This information should include the titles of all poems, songs or passages to be used as well as the author and the name of who will be reciting, playing or performing each. Some people also like to incorporate a copy of the obituary.

This printed order helps whoever is officiating over the services to keep things flowing and to make sure nothing is left out. Fellow mourners are also able to follow along much easier when they have a guide in hand. It is helpful to know how things will proceed and to also be able to revisit any tributes that one finds touching.

Perhaps the most valuable purpose of this type of document is the sense of closure it gives to the mourners. It provides them something physical to take away from the event. People grieve in different ways and for some, this type of memento is an important coping mechanism.

There are multiple reasons why having an available funeral program available at the services is important. It not only pays homage to the deceased, but it helps those in attendance follow the proceedings. For many individuals, these handouts are keepsakes that assist them in coping with their own sense of loss.
